CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Significance of the study

People learn languages in order to communicate with others. Reading is the most important skills for EFL learners .

“ language teachers often use the word reading to refer to two entirely different process . In one case , they have in mind an activity in

which students read a loud from the printed page ; in the other case , they mean an activity which students read a passage for comprehension .”  [۱]

In reading there are three components that are relevent to text

comprehension : Volabulary , topic prior knowledge , and reading strategies . The purpose of this study to examine the effect of vocabulary teaching on reading comprehension . We know that reading comprehension can be developed through listening and reading .

Research  Question

In order to give an explanation for the purpose of study the following research question was proposed :

Is there any relationship between teaching new vocabularies in a text and students reading comprehension .
